Curtis Kenneth Ward, 91, of Richardson, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2021. He was born November 27, 1929, near the community of Pearson, Oklahoma, in rural Pottawatomie County, and attended school in nearby Seminole County where he graduated from Cromwell High School in 1947. Having received an academic scholarship for study at Oklahoma City University, he attended for one year before transferring to Harding College (now University) in Searcy, Arkansas, from which he graduated in 1951. In the meantime he had married his high school sweetheart, Mary L. (Wood) Ward, to whom he was married for nearly 53 years until her death in 2003. Their eldest son, Warren, died in 2006. In 2004, Curtis was happily remarried to Peggy J. (Cooley) Ward, who also preceded him in death (2018).
Curtis pursued a career in finance, aviation, and banking in both Wichita, Kansas, and Dallas, Texas. Throughout his adult life he was a faithful member of the Poplar Avenue Church of Christ, in Wichita, and the Waterview Church of Christ, in Richardson, where he was much beloved for his commitment and service. Ward is survived by son Roger, of Kansas City, and daughter Melinda Adwon (Mitch), of Tulsa, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, as well as by his brother, Wendell (Sandra), of Franklin, Tennessee, and other family members. All wish to express their sincerest thanks to The Monarch of Richardson and Yellow Rose Hospice for their devotion to Curtis during his final days. Out of concern for health and safety, plans are pending for a memorial service at a later date. A private service will be conducted on June 30 at the chapel of Swearingen Funeral Home, 1001 N. Milt Phillips Avenue, Seminole, OK 74868, with burial immediately thereafter at Little Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Robert and Willora Oglesby Foundation, c/o Waterview Church of Christ, 1409 N. Waterview Drive, Richardson, TX 75080.
