Curtis Harjo

Curtis Lee Tanyan Harjo, 59, lifelong Seminole County resident passed from this life on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  He was born December 1, 1954 in Talihina, Oklahoma to parents, Benjamin Tanyan and Grace (Coody).  He was raised by his adoptive parents, Lucy and Elmer Harjo in Maud, Oklahoma. Curtis graduated from Maud High School in 1973.  He later worked for Shawnee Glass Company where he was a glass cutter and designer.  Curtis also attended the Achena Presbyterian Church southeast of Maud. Survivors include one son, James Winfred Harjo and his fiancé, Olivia LeClair both of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; seven brothers, Albert and Brenda Tiger of Seminole, Oklahoma; Simon Harjo of Seminole, Oklahoma; Clifton Tanyan and his fiancé, Tina Hale both of Seminole, Oklahoma; Jimmy Harjo of Seminole, Oklahoma, Larry Deere of Seminole, Oklahoma, Leroy Mitchell of Seminole, Oklahoma and Tony Harjo of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one sister, Dorothy Davis of Seminole, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Ruth Tiger of Seminole, Oklahoma; one grandson, Miles Bishop McGirt of Shawnee, Oklahoma; and a host of other family and dear friends. Curtis is preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Beth and Tisha Harjo; five brothers, Glenn Tiger, Anthony Tanyan, Chris Tanyan, Clifford Tanyan and George Jones; two sisters, Ruby Tanyan and Carolyn Talamasey. A wake service is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., Thursday evening, March 13, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
