Coy Harold Hammett, age 95 and a resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away from this life Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Avonlea Cottage in Seminole, Oklahoma. A graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Dora Cemetery in Seminole County under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Rev. Arthur Carpitcher will officiate. Coy was born May 6, 1923 in Francis, Oklahoma to Robert Jacob Hammett and Belle Dora (Williamson) Hammett. He attended Bowlegs High School and proudly served his country as a PSC in the U. S. Navy during WWII. He earned an Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and WWII Victory Medal. He married Adeline Pennokee on September 27, 1945, in Guthrie, Oklahoma, and he was a Sales Service Engineer for Dow Chemical Company. Coy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wolf, and he loved gardening and ranching. He is survived by one son, David Hammett and wife, Margaret of Konawa; one daughter, Beverly Altizer and husband Jerry of Konawa; two brothers, Robert Dwight Hammett of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and Gerald Hammett of Kerrville, Texas; one sister, Carolyn Swartwood of Coweta, Oklahoma; and three grandchildren, Aleshia Lofton and husband, Justin, Chase Hammett, and Justin Hammett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Belle Hammett; his wife, Adeline Hammett on October 5, 1991; two brothers, and three sisters.
