Cody Gene Bennett, 63-year-old Earlsboro, Oklahoma resident, passed away in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on January 24, 2022. He was born September 14, 1958, in Prague, Oklahoma to Larry Gene Bennett and Zeta Mae (Nipper) Carty. He spent most of his childhood at his grandparents’ farm in Earlsboro. Cody then attended Carl Albert High School where he became a member of the All-American choir and travelled throughout the United States and Europe performing in well-known venues.
Upon graduation from high school, Cody entered into service for his country in the United States Army, progressing to the enlisted rank of Army Specialist (SPC) 5. He was a college graduate and also earned a master’s degree. He then worked as a physical education teacher in elementary schools. He was a devoted father and grandpa and enjoyed watching the grandkids in their activities. He was able to enjoy this last season as a result of a heart transplant in 2012. He also had a love for performing music, singing and theater.
Left to cherish Cody’s memory are his mother, Zeta Carty; his sons, Cody Bennett and his wife, Shawna, of Earlsboro, Oklahoma and Chris Bennett and his wife, Heather, of New Braunfels, Texas; his daughter, Meagan Chambers and her husband, Jason, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, his brother, Bill Bennett and his wife, Tracy, of Yukon, Oklahoma; his sisters, Lee Ann Bourland and her husband, John, of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, Deana Ball and her husband, Jim, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Lisa Mills and husband, Roger of Seminole and Ronda Lindsay and husband, Garold, of Lindsay; and his grandchildren, Madison, Duncan, Colton, Tatum, Isabella, Ezekiel and Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Gene Bennett; his grandparents, Willie and Rosa Nipper and his stepfather, Ronald Lee Carty.
A Celebration of Life Service for Cody will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 28, 2022, at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Pastor Danny Napier officiating.
The Family requests instead of flowers, memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, Texas 75284-0692.
