Clinton Van Jackson

Clinton Van Jackson, 91, longtime Seminole, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 11, 2020. Clinton was born January 14, 1929 in the Strother Community, in Northeast Seminole County, to Thomas (Tom) Jackson and Mollie (Hillard) Jackson. Clinton attended grade school and high school at Strother Public School and graduated in 1947.

Clinton worked for Canadian Valley electric from 1947 to 1948 and went to work for Firestone in 1949 to 1951, until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1952. He served his country until the end of 1953, he was a Private First Class and served in Combat during the war. He received the National Defense Korean Campaign medal with bronze stars, the United Nations Combat and Good Conduct Medals. After his release from active duty, he served six years in the United States Army Reserves, returned to work for Firestone in 1954 till 1982. At the Firestone store in Seminole he served different jobs throughout the years as Service Manager, Bookkeeper, Credit Manager and Store Manager. After his retirement from Firestone in 1982 he went to work for Seminole County in the receiving office and road foreman, until 1991. Clinton never stopped working even after his last retirement he worked some odd jobs.

Clinton enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling in senior leagues and watching sports on TV. He was a member of the Seminole Church of Christ, where he had served as Deacon and assisted with the church finances. He also enjoyed helping with “Meals on Wheels”. Clinton was a member of the American Legion, Post 2021.

Clinton married Peggy (Nelon) Jackson on July 22, 1950 in Seminole, Oklahoma and they enjoyed 70 years of marriage.

Clinton is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Jackson of the home in Seminole, and his son Ricky V. Jackson, and his sister Juanita Lowe of Seminole.

He was preceded in death by his brothers; Ernest Jackson, Fred Jackson and sisters; Cleo Bond, JoAnn Marquis and Anna Marquis.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Little Cemetery, with Arpoika Daniels officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery with Military Honors.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
