Clifford W. Beichner

Clifford W. Beichner, 97, longtime Seminole resident, died Friday, September 11, 2015. Clifford was born on May 12, 1918 in Avant, Oklahoma, near Tulsa, to William Fredrick Beichner and Edith Blanch (Miller) Beichner. He grew up in Avant, Oklahoma area and later moved to Seminole with his parent and four sisters in 1935. He was a graduate of the 1936 class at Seminole High School and attended two years at Seminole Junior College. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He joined the Navy and was a machinist 2nd class in the 18th Naval Construction Battalion attached to the Seabees. His battalion was first at Guadalcanal.  After the war, he came back to Seminole and opened Beichner Cycle Shop on the curve of west Broadway Street. He was a machinist, a bonded lock smith, businessman and was able to fix or make anything from his shop.  He was very active in supporting the growth of new business by contributing financially to the Seminole Chamber, to help bring Blue Bell (now Wrangler) to Seminole and Clay Pipe Company, east of Seminole. He was a longtime member of the Seminole Masonic Lodge. Clifford married Kathryn “Katie” (O’Hara) Beichner in May of 1946; she preceded him in death on June 22, 1998. Kathryn was an English teacher at New Lima High School and retired from Seminole High School. Mr. Beichner is survived by his sisters, Dorothy Ann Pritchett of Prague, Oklahoma and Billie Jean Cox of Garland, Texas., his fiancé, Mildred Edney of Glenpool, Oklahoma, several nieces and nephews and his close friends, Robert Treat, Jim and Vicky Smart and Bobby Alexander. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kathryn Beichner, longtime close friend, Vivianna Wallace in 2008, sisters Mary Margaret Cobb and Helen Lucille Talley. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with burial taking place at Maple Grove Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Donny Pritchett, Paul Pritchett, Gary Cox, Michael Cox, David Wolf and Gordon Mcaleb. Honorary bearers will be Jim Smart, Bobby Alexander, Robert Treat and Neil Wallace. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
