Thomas “Clay” Ponder, 94 year-old, Seminole resident passed from this life Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Unity North Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He was born September 7, 1916 in Heavener, Oklahoma to parents Durham Ponder and Sarah Etta (Plummer) Ponder. Clay served in the United States Army. He married Mattie Roberts on February 20, 1940 in Okemah, Oklahoma and moved to Seminole over 25 years ago from Abilene, Texas. Clay had worked for Getty Oil Company before his retirement and he was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Mattie Elizabeth (Roberts) Ponder of the home; two sons, Mitch Ponder of Clackamas, Oregon and Ron Ponder of North Carolina; one daughter, Joy Dean Huza of Switzerland; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. Clay is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one grandson. A Celebration of Clay’s life will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel located at 1001 N.
