Charley James, 81 year-old life long Seminole resident passed from this life Sunday, September 2, 2007 at his home in Seminole. He was born September 25, 1925 in Seminole to parents McKinley "Sonny" James and Willie Lee (Moore) James.rnrnCharley attended Booker T. Washington School in Seminole and went on to join the United States Army. He married Lertie V. (Mitchell) James on November 2, 1943 in Seminole she preceded him in death March 25, 1998. He also had a janitorial company for many years, Charley James Janitorial.rnrnCharley worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Seminole he started April 1, 1949 as a janitor and in 1971 he had worked his way up to a lineman for the company. Charley retired April 1, 1979 after 30 years with Southwestern Bell. After his retirement from Southwestern Bell he installed phone jacks in homes. rnrnCharley was a member of the Church of The Living God, he was also active in other community activities working with the local Boy Scouts, driving a school bus and even running for city council. He was also a member of the Seminole American Legion Post #204. Charley also operated, "Charley James Fireworks Stand" for many years.rnrnMr. James leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Charlesetta (James) Richardson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.rnrnTwo brothers, Spencer James and Arnold James.rnrnTwo grandchildren, Dulani & Aisha Richardson and one great-great grandchild, Larone Richardson.rnrnCharley is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other family and dear friends.rnrnFuneral Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 10, 2007 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole.rnrnInterment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole with military honors.
