Seminole

Charles Gregory Kemp (Coach Kemp) was a Seminole resident who passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at his home, at the age of 56 years old.  Coach Kemp was born on September 1, 1967 in Wewoka, OK to Arnold G. Kemp and Alzetta L. Doolittle (Kemp).  He finished his Bachelor's Degree at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma in 1989.

Coach Kemp was a beloved coach and teacher for Seminole Public Schools since 2008. He was a member of Oklahoma Coaches Association and Oklahoma Education Association. He was named the All State Coach in 2019, and in 2022 was named the Conference Coach of the Year. Coach Kemp coached the high school boys basketball teams from 2008-2015 and girls softball teams from 2013-2023. He coached the junior high softball girls for a stint.  He coached the high school girls basketball teams from 2015-2023. He would assist coaching in track and golf over the years.

In his youth, he was a Boomer Sooner fan where he attended the college games. He enjoyed fishing with his Uncle Ivory. Above all, he enjoyed coaching more than anything. Furthermore, the children he coached and mentored over the years had a special place in his heart. Coach Kemp also enjoyed golf in his spare time.

Coach Kemp had a very close relationship with his mother, Alzetta and recently had to oversee his father’s affairs and health in his father's last living days.  He would tease his sister and have healthy disagreements about different viewpoints as children. But most importantly he was always her protector. Coach Kemp was a devoted father to his son,  Levi, who is his only child.  His brother Arnell was a best friend, especially during their childhood and throughout high school.

Finally, Coach Kemp was loved by the community, family, friends and his Seminole High School family. He accepted Christ and was baptized with Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church on May 9, 1982 and joined Community of Christ Church of Seminole, OK on July 29, 2012.

Coach Kemp is survived by his son, Levi Kemp of Seminole, Oklahoma; sister, Veronica Gay (Kemp) of Arizona; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and many other family and friends.

Coach Kemp was preceded in death by his mother, Alzetta L. Doolittle (Kemp); father, Arnold G. Kemp; brothers, Arnell C. Kemp, Denardo Kemp and Christopher Blu Kemp and his grandparents, Clyde and Herlena Spencer.
