Charles "Butch" G. Johnson

Charles “Butch” G. Johnson, Seminole, OK resident, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024 in Shawnee, at the age of 85.  Butch was born on June 26, 1938 in Van Buren, AR to Robert Wayne Johnson and Zelda Mae (Lofton) Johnson. He grew up and spent most of his life in Seminole. He was a 1957 graduate of Seminole High School. He married Auttis Gillespie on January 11, 1968 in Seminole. Butch worked as an aircraft mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base until his retirement.

Butch enjoyed camping and being a shade tree mechanic.  Butch and Auttis treasured vacations and touring the United States.  He also loved his extended family and spending time with his father-in-law, Oscar Gillespie; mother-in-law, Pheba Gillespie; brothers-in-law, Lewis J. and Norma Gillespie, Edward (Buzz) and Charlotte Gillespie, Billy and Annie Gillespie and sister-in-law, Barbara and Harris and Danny. They all  gave him great joy.

Butch is survived by his wife of 56 years, Auttis Johnson; sons, James Johnson and Billy Johnson and wife, Jayme; eight grandchildren, Cheyenne Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Kolby Johnson, Karli Johnson, Peyton Johnson, Adam Deatherage, Desiree Deatherage and Collin Deatherage; four great grandchildren and one on the way and many other family and friends.

Butch was preceded in death by his mother, Zelda Johnson; father and step-mother, Wayne and Beatrice Johnson; son, Robert G. Johnson; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Johnson and sister, Mary B. Johnson.

Those serving as casket bearers will be Kolby Johnson, Larry Harris, Travis Gillespie, Larry Grant, Kevin Bane and Jason Wall.  Honorary casket bearers will be Erin Gillespie, Jody Brooke and Jacob Johnson.

Viewing will be on Sunday, April 14, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Monday, April 15, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Seminole Church of Christ on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 with Eugene Johnson and Arpoika Daniels officiating.  Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole.
