Charles Floyd Payne , age 78 and a life-time resident of Konawa, Oklahoma passed away April 21, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2024 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Rev. Drew Isaacs will officiate, and burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Casket bearers are Charles Hudson, Jeffery King, Trey Rogers, Michael Roe, James Roe, and David Riddle.
Charles was born September 2, 1945 in Konawa to Harvey Young Payne and Dorsey Alma (Starkey) Payne. He graduated from Konawa High School and worked for many years at Khoury Furniture and Lumber in Konawa. As a Sergeant First Class (E-7) in the Oklahoma National Guard, Charles proudly served his country for seventeen years from June 3, 1965 until June 26, 1982. He married Mary Frances Canada in Konawa on September 28, 1983, and he was a member of the Bowlegs Assembly of God Church. He loved to study genealogy, and he was great at “pestering his grandkids”.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Payne of the home; two daughters, Mary Diane Payne of Ada, Oklahoma, and Heather Palmer of Konawa; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, James, Harley, Rex, and Earl Payne.
