Charles Nichols

October 10, 1932 — November 7, 2015

Charles “Richard” Nichols, age 83 and a resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Norman Regional Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel of Konawa.  Steve Littrell will officiate, and burial will follow at Konawa Cemetery.  Pallbearers are Corey Grove, Treyton Grove, Clifton Grove, Joe Morgan, Mickey Johnson, and Mike Jackson.  Honorary pallbearer is Darrel Walker. Richard was born October 10, 1932 one mile west of Konawa in Pottawatomie County to Jesse Ray Nichols and Winnie Fred (Johnson) Nichols.  He grew up in Konawa and was a 1950 Konawa High School graduate and alumni.  He was voted most popular boy in his Senior year, and he played football his Junior and Senior years in school.  After graduation, he went to Wyoming and Montana to work in the oilfield industry.  Then, he was drafted by the U.S. Army and served two years in the U. S. and in Korea.  He returned and worked for the U. S. Postal service for many years as a mail sorter on the train until his retirement.  He married Patsy Asbaugh December 27, 1957. He is survived by three daughters, Roseanne Cockriel and husband, Kevin of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Karen Nichols of Moore, Oklahoma, and Debbie Boren also of Moore; two sisters, June Neal of Konawa and Doris Bartgis and husband, Doyle of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Natalie, Ashley, and Garrett Boren; and two great grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Finch; one brother, John Nichols; and his former wife, Patsy Nichols. The family wished to express their sincere gratitude to the Veteran’s Center and to Norman Regional Hospital staffs who took such great care of Richard.
