Charles Mangus

Charles Lloyd Mangus, 79 year-old, Tecumseh, Oklahoma resident passed from this life on October 26, 2013 at Golden Rule Nursing Center in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  He was born December 20, 1933 in Tecumseh, Oklahoma to parents, Lloyd Mangus and Martha (Ketner) Mangus. Charles attended Tecumseh Public Schools before joining the United States Army where he served during the Korean War. On May 19, 1959 Charles married Carrie Elizabeth Birdsell in Poteau, Oklahoma. Charles was a self-employed carpenter for many years, finishing out his career working at the Pensacola Naval Base in Pensacola, Florida.  He was also very involved in his church, Sharon Baptist Church of Shawnee.  Charles loved to serve the Lord by giving out Gideon Bibles to many different organizations. Charles was a man with many talents; there wasn’t much that he couldn’t do.  He loved fishing, woodworking, quilting, and being with his family. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Keith Mangus and his wife Vonda of Shawnee, Oklahoma; three daughters and sons-in-law, Juanita Mills and her husband Randy of Yuba City, California, Christine Palmer and her husband Travis of Maud, Oklahoma, Shelley Brown and her husband Mike of Pensacola, Florida; two brothers, James Mangus of Madill, Oklahoma, Virgil Mangus of Chandler, Oklahoma; seven sisters, Dorothy Newton of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, Cleta Farr of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Delores Browning of Washington State, Marcella Jones of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Ima Jo Stapp of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, Nancy Tegtmeier of Madill, Oklahoma, Helen Lamb of Shawnee, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Bryan Keith Bierd, Robert William Bierd, Matt Waldrop, Doug Waldrop, and Justin Stevens; eight great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and dear friends. Charles was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Mangus, his mother, Martha (Ketner) Mangus, one son, Charles Eugene Mangus, and by his wife of 54 years, Carrie Elizabeth (Birdsell) Mangus who died on May 3, 2013. A Memorial Service with Military Honors is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., October 31, 2013 at Sharon Baptist Church in Shawnee with Pastor Clint Dawkins officiating the service. Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
