Charles Walter Johnston, Jr., 86, lifelong Seminole resident died Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Integris Seminole Medical Center. Charles was born November 7, 1923 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Charles Walter and Bessie G. (Bryant) Johnston. Charles was a graduate of Seminole High School and The University of Oklahoma where he received a degree in Geology, after serving in the U. S. Air Force during World War II as a Flight Navigator. Mr. Johnston was a Geologist in the “ Greater Seminole Oil Fields”, helping his clients find potential drilling sites and oil for most of his adult life. He was a member of the American Institute of Professional Geologists, the Oklahoma Geological Society and the Oklahoma City Geological Society. He was also active in the Seminole community where he served on the Maple Grove Cemetery Association and was instrumental in helping with the restoration of the “ Historic Strothers Chapel”. He was an active member of the Church of Christ in Seminole. Charles was married to his first wife, Arlene (Smith) Johnston, on April 9, 1945 in Seminole and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2003. Charles later married Norma (Smith) Dollar on August 14, 2004 in Seminole. His parents, two sisters and his son Senator Jeff Johnston and a grandson also preceded Charles in death. His wife Norma Johnston of the home, a granddaughter Katie Roberts and her husband Richard, and three great grandchildren survives Mr. Johnston. His sister Kaye Black of Weatherford, Oklahoma, two nephews and four stepsons, Michael Dollar of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Richard Dollar of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Lynn Dollar and Ronnie Dollar also of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, also survive him. Funeral services are planned for Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. With Chris Stinnett officiating. Memorial donation may be made to Seminole State College Educational Foundation in memory of Jeff Johnston or the Maple Grove Cemetery Association.
