Celia “Ruth” (Enlow) McClure, age 95 and a resident of Konawa, Oklahoma since 1951, passed away on Sunday night, May 24, 2015. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2015 at the Church of Christ in Konawa. Burial will follow at Violet Springs Cemetery in Konawa. Richard Winters will officiate, and pallbearers are grandsons, Jeff McClure, Joshua McClure, Zachary McClure, Niles Johnson, Beau Johnson, Kyle Johnson, James Taylor, Will Spain, Keaton Marriott, and Greg Brandon. Ruth was born on August 20, 1919 in Enid, Oklahoma to Champ Devere Enlow and Maude (Snow) Enlow. After graduating from Enid High School, Ruth moved to Asher, where she married J.C. “Sandy” McClure on June 21, 1938 at Asher, Oklahoma. Ruth was a member of the Church of Christ. When Sandy returned from World War II, he bought a $200 gas truck, and together, he and Ruth started their business, which has been in Konawa for sixty-three years. Ruth assisted in the office, was a homemaker, and was involved in every activity of her four children - and since Roger started college the same year Rebecca started first grade, there were many years of activities. She and Sandy never missed a ball game or a band performance. She was homeroom mother, taught Bible school, helped with fundraisers, and chaperoned school trips. She was also a superb cook and cooked at least two meals a day until she was in her nineties. Once her children were grown, Ruth became a fisherman - but not just your average fisherman. She could catch sand bass - often several at a time - with the best. She turned her weekly catch into fillets and brought them home for fish fries - and making family memories. Ruth knew the importance of preserving family ties, and she welcomed everyone - from nieces and nephews to first, second, and third cousins - to huge holiday gatherings in her home. Even Santa would make an appearance. These times together are among our fondest memories. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. Gramama read to them, taught them to fish, and attended all of their many activities. Family get-togethers for birthdays and OU ballgames on TV often culminated in singing songs on the patio while the grandkids played their guitars. Each one knew her love was unconditional. Every visit, phone call, and card ended with “Gramama Loves You” - her legacy that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Champ Devere and Maude Enlow; her husband, Sandy McClure; one son, Steve McClure; two sisters, Myrtle Rich and Dorothy Hoffman; one brother, John Enlow; and one grandson, Brett Patterson. She is survived by one son, Roger McClure and wife, Mary Ruth of Konawa; two daughters, Sandra Johnson and husband, Arthur of Konawa, and Rebecca Marriott and husband, Robert of Norman, Oklahoma; one daughter-in-law, Sherrill McClure of Tulsa, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren, Lezlea Brandon and husband, Greg, Jeff McClure and wife, Jinger, Joshua McClure, Zachary McClure, Niles Johnson, Beau Johnson, Kyle Johnson and wife, Jennifer, Steffan Spain and husband, Will, Keaton Marriott, and Jill Taylor and husband, James; ten great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Ruth McClure loved her family and her friends and without fail, always put them first. She was wise, kind, and selfless to the last days of her beautiful life. She was the sunshine of our family.
