Carl Edward "Cotton" Williams, lifelong Vamoosa and Konawa area resident, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2007, at his residence in Vamoosa at the age of 90.rnrnHe was born on September 15, 1916 at Sacred Heart, OK to Sam & Laura Catherine (Jones) Williams. rnrnCarl enlisted in the United States Army on January 9, 1942. He served during World War II with the Company F 179th Infantry, 45th Division. He fought in campaigns in Sicily, Naples-Foggia, South France, Rome-Arno and Rhineland. rnHe received numerous medals and ribbons including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Silver Star, WW II Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and WW II Honorable Service Pin. He received an honorable discharge on July 4, 1945.rnrnCarl married Wanda Lou (Goodrich) on August 24, 1961 at Kingfisher, OK and she preceded him in death on May 17, 2007.rnrnCarl worked as a roughneck and pumper for many years in the oilfield. He was a farmer and raised cattle for several years.rnrnHe was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ada and the American Legion.rnrnHe is survived by two step-sons and their wives, Freddy and Cindy Carpenter of Konawa and Frank and Betty Sue Carpenter of Seminole; four step-grandchildren, Shawn Green and his wife Tasha, Jeremy Green, Kerri Cheatwood and her husband Jason and Patricia Carpenter;rnsix step-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and special care-giver, Evyleen Lemmings.rnrnHe was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charlie Williams and three sisters, Cleo Holman, Flora Tennison and Ora Jones.rnrnFuneral services will be at held on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Konawa with Rev. Michael Vallandingham and Rev. Drew Isaacs officating. rnrnServing as casket bearers will be David Green, Tracey Brooks, Darrell Mackey, Ray Woody, Benny Edwards and Dr. Benjamin Edwards. rnHonorary bearers will be Bob Harrison, Lloyd Mosley, Floyd Van Clayton, C.L.
