Calvin Wayne “Mekko” Harjo, of Oklahoma City, died on Thursday, September 16 in an Oklahoma City hospital.
Mekko, the son of Toney Harjo and Carla Rae Larney, was born January 11, 1982 in Shawnee, OK. He attended school at Carter Seminary in Ardmore, OK. He enjoyed shooting pool and watching sports, he loved helping people, he always put others first; he enjoyed working and traveling, which he was fortunate to be able to do with his work. Mekko was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Bethany, OK where he was baptized in the summer of 2021.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carla Rae Larney ; maternal grandparents, Mozella “Moe” (Warledo) Larney and Thomas (TG) Larney; paternal grandparents, Mary Ann Joshua and Edmond Joshua Jr.; uncles, Sonny Larney, Steven Wayne Harjo, and Newman Harjo Jr; and aunt Sandra “Renea” Larney.
Mekko is survived by his father, Toney Harjo; sisters, Cassandra Griffin of Van Buren, Arkansas, and Toni White of Oklahoma City; and his brother, Blake Larney of Seminole; along with many other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Mike Larney, Treymore Griffin, Javier Martinez, Nathaniel Bunner, Ricky Shannon, and Jason Rhodd. Honorary pallbearers will be Kobie Rhodd, Carlos Sandoval, JR Deere, and Pvhosoche “Po” Larney.
Mekko will be taken to Hitchitee Church at 4:00 P.M. Sunday to begin viewing.
There will be a wake service Sunday, September 26, 2021 at 7:00 P.M. at Hitchitee Church. The funeral service will be Monday, September 27, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Hitchitee Church with burial to follow at the Harjo Family Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
