Bruce Dewayne Benson

Reverend Bruce Dewayne Benson, 67,  Earlsboro, Oklahoma resident left this world for his eternal home Saturday, November 25, 2017 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  Bruce was born on January 27, 1950 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Reverend Bob and Martha Benson. Bruce co-owned and operated Benson Construction with his son Brian Benson and built many homes and church buildings.  Bruce was also a pastor and served the Assemblies of God and Church of God or over 40 years.  He served as pastor in the communities of Cherokee, Perry, Wewoka, Shawnee, and  Seminole.  He was the founding pastor of two churches one that is now Freedom Assembly of God in the South Rock Creek area, and the second is Lighthouse Tabernacle in Seminole Oklahoma.  He retired after pastoring Lighthouse Tabernacle for 13 years.  Bruce had a love for old cars, hot rods, and was a true Ford man.   He was a member of the Memory Lane Cruisers Car Club in Seminole, Oklahoma.  He was also a family man who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Bruce married Donna (Willis) Benson on June 15, 1973 in Moore, Oklahoma. Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Donna Benson of the home, his father and mother Reverend Bob and Martha Benson of Cyril, Oklahoma, two sons; Jeromy Benson and his wife Misti, of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, Brian Benson and his wife Stephanie of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, one Daughter Amy Gregg and her husband Jerrod of Earlsboro, Oklahoma; two brothers Dennis Benson of Cyril, Oklahoma, and Reverend  Mike Benson and his wife Dawn of Arlington, Texas, and he is also survived by his four grandchildren;  Haley Benson, Brayden Benson, Brooklyn Gregg and Madison Benson. Bruce was preceded in death by his sister Bobbie Jo Gaither. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Reverend Mike Benson and Reverend Ken Kerbo officiating.  Burial will follow at the Little Cemetery, north of Seminole, Oklahoma. Casket Bearers will be Jeromy Benson, Brian Benson, Jerrod Gregg, Daniel Moore, Erik Rowlett, Robert Anderson, Brandon Smith and Chad Rowan. The family will receive friends and family at a visitation on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Swearingen Funeral Home.
