A Wake service is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church located four miles west of Konawa, Oklahoma under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and Fr. Adrian Vorderlandwehr, O.S.B. will officiate. Pallbearers are Joe Velasquez, Reymundo Gomez, Micco Wesley, Gabriel Wind, Bear Harjo, and Jeff Harjo. Burial will follow at the Family Cemetery. Brian was born the youngest of three children on February 18, 1987, in Paramount, California to Ramon Gomez and Lee (Wesley) Gomez. Since Brian was a baby, he was surrounded by music. He grew up listening to “Oldies but Goodies” in his mama's car with his brother & sister. This exposure instilled in him a love of music that influenced him the rest of his life. He was inspired to learn the music's beat and to play the instruments in each song. Brian attended parties where his uncle Sal and brother Rey DJ'ed, and he said he wanted to DJ too. He was only ten years old when he asked his mom to buy him an equalizer for his DJ idea. Brian practiced every day, mixing, blending, scratching and learning the lyrics of many songs. He got his first DJ "gig" while he was a student at St. Matthias Elementary Catholic School at the age of eleven. Brian was very talented and had a passion for music. He had no formal training; in fact, he did not know how to read music. He learned everything by listening to music all the time. He learned to play the saxophone, clarinet, piano, and drums/tambora. His favorite instrument of all was the tuba. He was just beginning to learn bass guitar before he passed. When Brian wasn't working or dj-ing on the weekends, he loved to work on cars. His pride and joy was restoring his father's 1968 Chevy Impala. Brian LOVED to laugh. He loved to crack jokes just to make people laugh. Our family was always the loudest family in restaurants because of him. He was a gentle bear with a GIANT heart. It was his gentle nature that captured the heart of his wife, Victoria. Brian and Victoria met in the summer of 2004. It wasn't long before they were inseparable, laughing and enjoying each other's company. They discovered new places, new hang outs, and made new friends wherever they went. Brian and Victoria married on March 30, 2012, and together continued making new memories. They had eleven joyful years together; three beautiful years of marriage; and a future full of promise. He was just 28 years old when the Lord called him home. Things will never be the same – but Brian and his music will always be remembered. A light has gone out, and all we have left is the precious memory of how brightly it burned and the warmth it gave us. He is survived by his parents of Konawa, Oklahoma; his wife, Victoria of Lynwood, California; one brother, Reymundo Gomez of Whittier, California; and one sister, Kim Velazquez of Fullerton, California.
