Bobbie Upton

Bobbie Jeane (Lyon) Upton, 81 year-old lifelong Seminole County resident, passed from this life Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  She was born January 20, 1931 in Sasakwa, Oklahoma to parents Charlie N. Lyon and Lula Mae (Cargill) Lyon. Bobbie grew up in the Sasakwa area, where while attending school, she loved to play basketball.  Following her graduation from high school she married Billy Ray Upton on September 5, 1948 in Sasakwa, Oklahoma. Bobbie went on to further her education earning her associate degree from Seminole State College and then her bachelors degree in education from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma.  Bobbie loved education so much that while teaching elementary school in Vamoosa and raising a family she went on to earn her masters degree in elementary education from East Central University.  Bobbie later taught third grade at Seminole Public Schools from which she retired after having taught for twenty plus years. Bobbie was also very involved in her community where ever she was needed.  She is a former member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.  She also served as a Pink Lady at Seminole Hospital for 12 years, where she held the position past president.  Bobbie served as a Senator for the Silver Hair Legislature and was also vice-chair of that legislative committee.  One of the things that Bobbie loved the most was her God and family.  She was a longtime member of the Seminole First Baptist Church where she was always involved. Bobbie leaves to cherish her memory four sons, Larry Upton and his wife Debbie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Keith Upton of Seminole, Oklahoma, Michael Upton and his wife Gailanne of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mickey Upton and his wife Masami of Seminole, Oklahoma; one brother-in-law, Bob Upton and his wife Judy of Dewey, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Pam Yort of Shawnee, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Greg Upton of Chandler, Oklahoma, Nick Upton of McAlester, Oklahoma, Ginger Bibee of Stigler, Oklahoma, Amy Wilson of Norman, Oklahoma and Alex Upton of Seminole, Oklahoma; seven great grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends. Bobbie is preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Lula Mae Lyon; by her husband, Billy Ray Upton (May 28, 1989); by two brothers, Paul Lyon and Noal Lyon; and by two sisters, Carrie Mae Harrod and Ruth Olsen. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Seminole First Baptist Church located at 420 Reid Street in Seminole, Oklahoma.  Rev. Marvin Kehl will officiate the service with interment following at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole. Casket Bearers will be: Kenny Harrod, Cullen Harrod, Steve Olsen, Tim Olsen, Matthew Olsen, David Lyon and Bryan Lyon.
