Bobby “Bob” Lynn Massay, Seminole resident, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023 in Seminole, at the age of 87. Bob was born on December 5, 1935 in Seminole to William Hazel Massay and Mavis (Ivy) Massay. He married Glenda White on August 31, 1956 at 1st Presbyterian Church in Seminole. Bob served in the US Army and was stationed in Panama at the Jungle Warfare Training Center as a driver for the commander from 1958 – 1960.
Bob retired from Central Oklahoma Juvenile Treatment Center in Tecumseh as a science teacher in 1992. He then went to work with his wife, Glenda at St. Crispin’s Episcopal Conference Center as Assistant Director.
Bob enjoyed yard work and going to The Heritage House to hear the Garland Blocker Band. He was an avid football fan. He was formerly an elder at 1st Presbyterian Church and volunteered with the Seminole Food Pantry. Bob served on the Seminole High School Alumni Association Executive Committee. Bob loved telling and making up jokes. His grandchildren called him “Silly Sir”. He was very proud of being co-captain when the Seminole Chieftains won the state football championship for the first time in 1953.
Bob is survived by his two sons, Danny Massay of Seminole and Scott Massay of Hinton; daughter, Shelly Trammell of Seminole; five grandchildren, Tyler Trammell and wife, Amy, Tanner Trammell and wife, Colleen, Katie Scribner and husband, Tyler, Heather Gordon and husband, John Paul and Rachel Godwin and husband, Adam; eight great grandchildren, Paul Trammell, Hayden Gordon, Lily Gordon, Madison Gordon, Olivia Gordon, Josie Gordon, Owen Gordon and Avery Godwin and many other family and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Glenda Massay; brothers, John Massay, Bill Massay and Jim Massay; son, Mark Massay; son-in-law, Paul Trammell and great grandson, Trenton Godwin.
Honorary casket bearers are Mike Douglas, Larry Minihan, Ollie Adams, Lee Allen, Jim Rutters and Tom Gallahar.
Bob’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Humanity Hospice for the excellent care they provided.
Bob’s memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s family room. Interment will be at a later date. Services will be livestreamed on Facebook live for those unable to attend.
