Bob Laird, 83 year-old, lifelong Maud area resident passed from this life on Monday, December 30, 2013 in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. He was born January 10, 1930, the youngest of 11 children born to Lee and Minnie Mae (Barrick) Laird. At the time of his birth, the Laird family was living around Thorn Lake in the Punkin Center area (north east of Maud). They moved to Maud in the late 1940’s. After Lee’s death in 1937, Minnie and Bob continued living in Maud. Bob did odd jobs around town to supplement Minnie’s income. He mowed lawns, hauled hay and worked as a roustabout in the oilfields. He took care of his mother until her death in 1981. Bob was an icon in Maud, he would make daily trips, always walking uptown to people watch and to catch a good conversation. Bob always greeted you with a smile from under his big cowboy hat and a comment about the weather. Survivors include several nieces and nephews as well as a host of other family and friends. Bob is preceded in death by his parents Lee and Minnie Laird; five brothers and five sisters, Erastus Truitt, Vera, Raymond, Velma Eberly, Nigel, Thurman, Herman, Minnie Lee, William and Lahoma. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 3, 2014 at Cummings Cemetery in Maud, Oklahoma with Glen Williams officiating the service.
