Bob Clausing, retired businessman and civic leader, died Monday, August 14, 2006. He was 90.rnrnDeath of Robert W. ?Bob? Clausing was announced by his wife Jen Clausing. He had been in declining health for several years.rnrnOne of the biggest attainments in the mind of Bob Clausing was his induction as one of the twelve original inductees into the Seminole Hall of Fame which also included notable Seminole citizens, H. Milt Phillips, Jimmie Austin, Lyle Boren, David Boren, Louise Townes, L.P. ?Lonnie? Howze, Doc Grisso, rnrnOf equal importance and enjoyment in Bob Clausing?s life was his membership and work in Seminole Lions Club for more than 50 years which first began as a Lion in the Brownsville, Texas Lions Club when he was employed by Sears Roebuck following his return from service in World War II.rnrnBob Clausing?s membership in the Seminole Lions Club included serving as President and working each year at the annual Lions Club Halloween carnival and later with the train at Seminole municipal park.rnrnAn advocate for improvement and growth of Seminole for the more than 54 years he resided here, he was active in numerous civic and business organizations beginning with the initial investment of monies by many Seminole citizens and businesses to bring Blue Bell, now Wrangler, to Seminole when it located its first plant in the old Gulf Oil camp along Harvey Road. He along with several other Seminole citizens were instrumental in the relocation of Enviro-Systems to Seminole and the completion of city utilities for development of what is now Seminole Estates.rnrnDuring Bob Clausing?s term as president of the Seminole Chamber of Commerce the City of Seminole was designated an All-American City, one of three received by the City of Seminole and represented by plaques located in front of the Seminole Chamber of Commerce offices. He also served as chairman of the Seminole Industrial Foundation and member of the Seminole Industrial Trust Authority. As one Seminole citizen described him, he was a pusher for the good of Seminole.rnrnBorn March 17, 1916, at Kingfisher, Oklahoma, Bob Clausing was a graduate of Covington High School, and the University of Kansas where he was a member of Delta Chi social fraternity. He attended Oklahoma A&M, now Oklahoma State University, prior to his transfer to the University of Kansas when his father sold his grain elevator business at Covington and moved to Coffeyville, KS to own and operate a General Motors dealership.rnrnBob and Jen Clausing married July 6, 1941. Their 65th wedding anniversary was this past July.rnrnAfter college graduation he was employed by Oklahoma Tire & Supply until being drafted at the beginning of World War II in which he served as a medical supply officer in islands of New Guinea and Philippines. After World War II he was employed by Sears Roebuck in Enid, Oklahoma, before being transferred to Brownsville, Texas, in a management position.rnrnOn August 1, 1952, Bob Clausing and his wife Jen purchased Whitbeck Feeders Supply and operated it as Clausing?s Feeders Supply, Inc. until its purchase in November, 1997 by Ralph Black and Rickey Marquis who have grown the business and operate it as Clausing Farm Center, LLC.rnrnBob Clausing is survived by his wife Jen Clausing of the family home in Seminole, three children W. Kirk Clausing, Tulsa, Carole Lane and husband Peter Lane, Orchard Park, New York, and Mary Talkington and husband John Talkington, Virginia Beach, Virginia, and five grandchildren, Paul W. Clausing, San Francisco, California, Jennifer K Lane and Christine C. Lane, Orchard Park, New York, and Erin L. Talkington and Todd A. Talkington of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and brothers Gerald Clausing, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and Russell Clausing, Overland Park, Kansas.rnrnHe was predeceased by parents Albert H. Clausing and Carol Clausing, brothers John Clausing and Warren Clausing, and grandson Scott Talkington.rnrnBob Clausing was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Seminole.rnrnA memorial service is planned for a later date to be announced. Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole is in charge of the pre-planned arrangements for the Clausing family.
