Billy G. Marquis, 86, longtime Seminole resident died, Monday, February 17, 2014 at Avonela Cottage in Seminole, Oklahoma. Billy was born April 5, 1927 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Eunice (Bramlett) Marquis and Jess Marquis. Billy grew up in Seminole, attended and graduated from Strother High School and entered the U. S. Navy during the end of his senior year. Billy served in U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Arkansas during World War II as a Seaman 2nd Class. His ship was stationed in the Marshall Islands during the testing of the Atomic Bomb. Billy worked for Montgomery Wards for over 25 years in Dallas, Texas and retired as Department manager for plumbing and roofing materials. During his younger years, he worked for the Mercury Oil Refinery in Seminole, Oklahoma. Billy was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Seminole, a member of the Masonic lodge and was an avid coon hunter. Billy married Margaret Joan “ Jo” Nelon on April 23, 1948 in Seminole and sadly Jo preceded him in death on August 29, 2013. Billy is survived by his three daughters, Brenda Lozano of Lindale, Texas, Linda Silvey of Mineola, Texas and Cindy Chambers of Midland, Texas, two sisters Reba Duncan of Norman, Oklahoma and Claudette Brock of Tulsa, Oklahoma, one brother, Bobby Jo Marquis of Cromwell, Oklahoma, seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Mark Hennen officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery. U.S. Naval Honors will be presented at the Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive family and friends at a visitation on Tuesday evening, February 18, 2014 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Casket bearers will be Michael Lozano, Alan McCracken, Luke Chambers, Tucker Phelps, Terry Silvey, Bobby Marquis, Anthony Campos and Jeff Duncan.
