Billy died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at his home east of Seminole, with his family gathered around him, following a short battle with cancer. He was born July 9, 1953, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Pheba and Oscar Gillespie. He attended New Lima School, graduating in 1973. He also attended Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee. He married Annie Anson on June 9, 1973. They had three children, Travis, Dana and Jennifer. Billy was a truck driver and a cattle trader, working in the oilfield and for Coates Roofing. At the time of his death, he was employed by Flint Energy/URS. Billy never met a stranger and inherited a gift of storytelling from his father. He could capture an audience in an instant with his stories of traveling cross-country with his parents following the harvest, or his adventures on the road as a truck driver. Billy’s happiest times were those spent boating and camping at Lake Eufaula with his family and especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Jennifer, who died May 3, 1978. He leaves to cherish his memory wife Annie of the home; son and daughter-in-law Travis and Sherri Gillespie of Seminole; daughter and son-in-law Dana and Jody Brooke of Norman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lewis James and Norma Gillespie, and Edward “Buzz” and Charlotte Gillespie, all of Seminole; sisters and brothers-in-law, Auttis and Charles “Butch” Johnson of Seminole, and Barbara and Danny Harris of Spring Hill, Fla.; and five much adored grandchildren, Madlyn, McKenzy and Levi Gillespie and Delaney and Owen Brooke; his mother-in-law, Velma Anson of Seminole; and a host of other family members and friends.
