William John Akerman, known to all as “Billy” and a live-long resident of Konawa, Oklahoma passed away on Monday, September 8, 2014 at St. Anthony Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma at the age of 82. A wake service is scheduled from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 11th at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. The Funeral Mass is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 12th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Adrian Vorderlandwehr, O.S.B. officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jacob Akerman, Lucas Akerman, Mickey Akerman, Scott Gentry, Danny Isaacs, Mark Reeves, and Jon Hoff. Honorary Pallbearers are Steve Dobbins, Jim Dobbins, Russell Dobbins, Bob Jeter, Don Madron, Tony Peters, Ronnie Allison, and Steve Nail. Billy was born at Sacred Heart near Konawa to Dan Akerman and Theresa (Diester) Akerman on August 30, 1932. He graduated from Konawa High School in 1951 and served in the Army from 1953 to 1955 in Germany. He married Judith Dobbins on May 10, 1958 in St. Louis, Oklahoma. They made their home in the area where he owned and operated Akerman Drilling Company. He is survived by his loving wife, Judith Akerman of the home; one son, Allan Akerman and wife, Karol of Konawa; one daughter, Sherry Jesse of Konawa; one brother, Chris Akerman and wife, Jo of Konawa; one sister-in-law, Jean Akerman of Konawa, seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Theresa Akerman; one son, Glen Akerman; two brothers, Francis and Mike Akerman; and two sisters, Alma Bell and Mary Bishop.
