Billie Aileen (Sawyer) Stebbins, 84 year-old, lifelong Seminole resident passed from this life May 5, 2011 in McAlester, Oklahoma. She was born December 23, 1926 in Wichita, Kansas to parents Charles Emanuel Sawyer and Alice Marie (Rowley) Sawyer. Billie graduated from Seminole High School and later married Ted Stebbins on July 8, 1945 in Seminole, Oklahoma. Together they went on to attend college at Oklahoma State where her husband earned his dental degree. The couple returned to Seminole where Dr. Ted Stebbins DDS opened his practice and Billie devoted her life to her Lord, family and community. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Seminole were she served the Lord in many different capacities including being a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group. Billie was the registrar for the Seminole Auxiliary Police Department and also volunteered for the Seminole Civil Defense. Many say that Billie let her light shine wherever she went and in what ever she was doing. Billie leaves to cherish her memories one son, Edward Loring Stebbins II and his wife Tami of McAlester, Oklahoma; two daughters, Susan Alice (Stebbins) Mashburn of Ellicott City, Maryland and Sally Ann (Stebbins) Skala and her husband Keith of Knoxville, Tennessee; one sister, Beverly (Sawyer) Bruton of Seattle, Washington; six grandchildren, Edi Reaves, Alicia VanderVat, Angie Baker, Zackery Stebbins, Cory Mashburn and Keiko Stebbins; five great-grandchildren, Josh Reaves, Jacob VanderVat, Emily Grace Reaves, Chris VanderVat and Alera Dayle Stebbins; as well as a host of other family and dear friends. Billie is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Dr. Ted Stebbins; and by one son-in-law, Major General H. Mashburn, Jr. United States Marine Corp. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma.
