Beulah Mae Winrow , longtime Earlsboro, Oklahoma resident passed away Monday, March 19, 2012 at the age of 106 in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. Beulah Mae was born on May 1, 1905 in Pelim, Texas to parents, Hiram Carruthers, and Julia (Younger) Carruthers. Beulah Mae lived most of her life in Earlsboro, Oklahoma. She was a member of the A.M.E. Methodist Church of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, and later joined the Church of Christ Church on Farrell and Bell Streets in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker, farmer, and at the age of 103 she was privileged to vote for the first black president of the United States, Barrack Obama. Beulah Mae, loved to play domino’s and was known as the Domino Queen of Shawnee, which she held the championship position for six years. She was a sharpshooter with a rifle; and was also active at the Shawnee Senior Citizens for many years. Beulah lived alone until the age of 103. Due to failing health she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law, Lorene and Hiram Ryan in Tecumseh, Oklahoma until her death. In Celebration of her 100th birthday Beulah Mae Winrow was presented with a citation from Gov. Brad Henry, Governor of The State of Oklahoma, as well as proclamation from the City of Shawnee declaring May 1st as “Beulah Winrow Day. Beulah Mae married Jackson William Winrow who passed away in 1945. To this union there was born nine children, Roy Winrow of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, Eunice Winrow Edmond of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Erma Jean Biglow of Kansas City, Kansas, Lorene Ryan and her husband Hiram of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, Kathleen Winrow Hicks of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, a grandson who she raised like a son Donnie Winrow Hicks of Las Vegas, Nevada. Four children preceded Beulah Mae in death, Opal Winrow Booker, Thurman Winrow, Booker Winrow and Barbara Jean Winrow. She was also survived by five generations of grandchildren. Beulah Mae was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings, as well as many family members and dear friends. Funeral service for Beulah Mae will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Immanuel Baptist Church of Shawnee, Oklahoma located 1451 E. 45th Street. Officiating will be Dr. Dewayne Winrow, Reverend Anthony Rhone, Reverend Ted Curtis and Reverend Kelly Booker. Burial will be at Earlsboro Cemetery, Earlsboro, Oklahoma. Dinner will be served following the funeral at Galilee Baptist Church located at 1025 E. 9th Street, Shawnee, Oklahoma. Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma are in charge of arrangements.
