El Reno resident Betty Jean Wahweah passed away Monday, March 6, 2023 at her home, at the age of 68.
Betty, the daughter of Jimmie and Nancy Mae (Deere) Carbitcher, was born November 26, 1954, in Wewoka. She graduated with the Bowlegs High School class of 1974, then continued her education at Bacone College. On May 16, 1975, she married Gene Wahweah, in Seminole. Betty and Gene moved to El Reno, where they established their home. Betty was an avid fan of OU and the Kansas City Chiefs, she also enjoyed fishing and loved attending family activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie and Nancy Carbitcher; brothers Monroe Carbitcher, Younger Carbitcher and Jimpsey Carbitcher; sister, Dora Mae Hill; and beloved sister-in-law Mary Wahweah Geary.
Betty is survived by her husband, Gene Wahweah, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Samuel Buck Wahweah and his wife Christy, of El Reno, and Gene “Wotko” Wahweah II and his wife Courtney of Oklahoma City; brothers Freeland Carbitcher of Seminole, and Cooky Carbitcher of Seminole; sisters, Pat Larney of Shawnee, Marina Butler of Bowlegs, Serena Scott of Seminole, and Nettie Haney of Seminole; five grandchildren, Quinten Wahweah, Niela Wahweah, Cameron Wahweah, Taryn Wahweah, Gene Wahweah III; six great grandchildren; a host of other family and friends.
Casket bearers will be JD Blackowl, Boy Hill, Bonzi Henneha, David Haney Jr., Monroe Carbitcher, Buffalo Hill, Isaac Harjo, Jake Carbitcher, Isaac Hill and Jimpsey “Jaws” Carbitcher. Honorary casket bearers will be Johnathan James, Jon Wahweah, Quinten Wahweah, Cameron Wahweah, David Haney Sr., JB Smith, Jason Brauning, Rusty Carbitcher, Leland Hart, and Brandon Carbitcher.
A wake service will be Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 6:00 P.M. at the Carbitcher Family Home in Bowlegs.
Services will be Friday, March 10, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Seminole. Interment will follow at the Carbitcher Family Cemetery in Bowlegs. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
