Betty Tanyan

Betty Tanyan, 63, longtime Seminole resident died Thursday, December 2, 2010 in Norman, Oklahoma at Norman Regional Hospital. Betty was born on November 3, 1947 in Wolf, Oklahoma to Lina Powell and Lena Harjo. She was a member of Cedar-Creek Eufaula Baptist Church. She married Benjamin Tanyan in 1970, who preceded her in death in 1989. She also worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant for many years in the local and surrounding nursing homes. Three sons; Simon Harjo and significant other Dana Andrade, Albert Harjo and his wife Brenda Tiger, Clifton Tanyan and his significant other Cindy Hill, two Step-sons Anthony Tanyan and Curtis Harjo, one sister Donna Renton, five brothers Richard Harjo, George Harjo, Jimmy Harjo, Leo Tiger, Sr., and Andrew Harjo, survive her. Twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Her parents, one sister, Sylvia Harjo, brothers Frank Harjo, Kenneth Harjo and one son Chris Tanyan preceded her in death. Funeral services will be Monday, December 6, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dorsey Nero and David Bowlegs officiating. Burial will follow at the Harjo family cemetery southeast of Bowlegs, Oklahoma. Betty will be taken to 3313 N. Hwy 99, her son’s home, for viewing and wake services beginning Saturday at 7:00 P.M. Casket bearers will be Kirk Fye, Jimmy Dean Jr., Thomas Jones Jr., Kevin Fixico, Terrance Thompson, Anthony Fixico, Kaleb Harrison. Honorary bearers will be Kenneth Harjo, Simon Harjo Jr., Marquis Fixico, Zackery Cheater-Tanyan, Ethan Tanyan, Eddie and Benjamin Martinez, Christopher Griffis Jr., Christopher Tanyan Jr., Zayden Tanyan, Landon Tiger, Zander Palmer and Zach Harjo.
