Betty, the daughter of Samuel “Newt” and Louella "Babe" (Cole) Williams, was born at home on July 29, 1928, just south of Seminole.
Her parents were brought to Seminole by Oklahoma oil. Her family lived in oil company houses until her family were able to purchase their own. She graduated Bowlegs High School in 1946. She was very proud to be a Bison. She loved wearing her Bowlegs High ball cap. Many a conversation with strangers began because of that ball cap. She met her husband, Wendell Ray Posey on a bus between Stroud and Seminole. They were married a month later on May 5, 1950. They made their home in Tulsa. As a mother to their 3 children, Betty became their elementary PTA president, Girl Scout leader for the girls and a Den Mother for her son. One of her proudest personal achievements was becoming a broker/agent in real estate and later an appraiser for HUD. Training facilities didn’t exist when Betty entered the real estate business, so she bought the materials and studied for the test on her own. After the death of her husband in 1981, she met Glen Eddington. They spent 33 years bird watching and traveling the world. Glen passed away in 2016. Since then Betty spent most of her time reading, crossword puzzles, and watching Wheel of Fortune. Over her long life Betty was a member and eventually President of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors in Tulsa and helped establish and run the Oklahoma Oil Museum in Seminole. In 2014, Betty was awarded a plaque in recognition of her years of dedicated service to the Oklahoma Oil Museum.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her partner Glen; three brothers, Lloyd Williams, Roy Williams, and Albert “Boots” Williams; and one sister, Patty Landreth.
Betty is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Scott Douglas and Bobi Posey, of Seminole; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa Ray and LeRoy Bracy of Bixby, Donna Karen and Martin Flynn of Tulsa; grandchildren, Paula Jean Duncan, Tara Olivia Flynn, Stephanie Gene Turner, Kristi Brown, and Sam Posey; 5 great grandchildren, and many other family and friends.
Betty loved her family and friends. She was very close to Linda Green, Betsey Woods and Phil Landreth. She still kept in touch with friends from Bowlegs High School : Bill Swain and F.C. Clark.
Betty moved into Saint Simeon's Senior Community Center in March 2021. She loved the peacocks and the Ice Cream Parlor. She really appreciated the care she was provided and the friendships she made. But as Betty would say 'It's not Seminole'.
