Longtime Seminole resident Betty Jo Curb passed away on Friday, August 22, 2008 in Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 80. rnrnShe was the youngest of seven born on March 6, 1928 in Wayne, Oklahoma to Thomas Rush McClure also known as ?T.R. and Daddy Mac? and Gertie (Phillips) McClure. rnrnShe attended Wayne School for Grades 1 through 6; Paoli School Grades 7 through 10 (8th Grade Valedictorian): Midwest City School for Grades 11 and 12, Senior Class Valedictorian. She received many awards including: Scholarship to Business College, American Legion Award, William P. Danforth award, Perfect Attendance (8 consecutive years), Best All-around Girl. Completed 3 Semesters at Oklahoma A&M College Stillwater, Oklahoma, School of Intensive Business.rnrnAfter Betty started full time at Midwest City Schools, she met her future husband Alfred F. Curb, they dated over two years before they were married and started their family two and one half years later. They had two sons: Russell, September 1953: Ronald, December 1956. Al and Betty had been dating for a few weeks when they realized that they had both enrolled at A & M and left A & M the same dates. They didn?t meet each other there, because Betty stayed at college on weekends attending church activities (no money for bus fare) and Al was on the G.l. Bill (Marines) and drove his old car or hitchhiked home most weekends (to see his girlfriend). For almost 55 years, Betty would remind Al that they could have met earlier at A & M.rnrnBetty worked for several years for Midwest City School District where she helped with their financials and many other accounting issues. She also worked for the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission and Tinker Air Force Base. Her most recent employment was with Strother School where she retired in May of 1995 after serving as their Secretary and Treasurer for thirty years. She had been an active member of Twin Oak Baptist Church since 1964. rnrnBetty leaves to cherish her memories her two sons and daughters-in-law; Ron and Lisa Curb of Newcastle, Oklahoma and Russell and Jeanette Curb of Elk City, Oklahoma, sister, Claudia Talley of Wellston, Oklahoma, three grandchildren, Tara Curb of Newcastle, Oklahoma and Tiffany and Nicholas Curb of Elk City, Oklahoma and one great granddaughter, Madisyn Inman of Elk City, Oklahoma. She is also survived by a host of other family and dear friends. rnrnShe is preceded in death by her parents, step-mother ?Woody? McClure, husband Alfred Curb on January 19, 2006, triplet sisters; Obie Willingham, Ocie Talley and Odie McClure and brothers; Tommy McClure and Troy McClure.rnrnrnrnrnrnFuneral services are scheduled for 10:00am, Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Forest Weast officiating. Lunch will be served following the service at Twin Oak Baptist Church.
