Bessie Elanor (Bickerstaff) Damron, age 96 and a former resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Sienna Extended Care and Rehabilitation in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 18th at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel located in Konawa, Oklahoma. Rev. Bob Rutherford, Pastor of Meadowwood Baptist Church in Midwest City, Oklahoma, will officiate. Pallbearers are Scott Damron, Justin Damron, John Kyle Damron, Dustin Fraizer, Richard Worley, and Jerry Worley. Burial will follow at Konawa Cemetery. Bessie was born on February 4, 1913, in Saltillo, Mississippi, to Lavonia (Bymun) and John L. Bickerstaff. She married William Kenard Damron on March 7, 1932, west of Konawa. She and her husband were the owners and operators of the Dairy King in Konawa, and she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Konawa. Bessie was also a member of the Sunday School Class “Care Circle” at Meadowwood Baptist Church in Midwest City. She is survived by one son, William Thomas Damron of Midwest City, Oklahoma; one daughter, Norma Dean Damron, also of Midwest City; one daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Damron of Del City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and eleven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lavonia Bickerstaff; her husband William Kenard Damron on June 10, 1988; one son, John Ray Damron on April 8, 2009; three brothers; three sisters; one grandson, Willie Ray Damron, and one great-great grandson, Chandler Ray Damron.
