Bessie Alexander

Bessie Alexander, age 67 and a former Seminole, Oklahoma resident, now of Shawnee, Oklahoma, died Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Golden Rule Nursing Home in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Bessie was born January 6, 1949 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Johnson Alexander and Pauline (Fixico) Butler. Bessie was a member of the Seminole Nation Tribe of Oklahoma and a former receptionist for the Citizen Pottawatomi Nation Daycare for over 18 years. She was a former member of Snake Creek Indian Baptist Church. Bessie loved playing Bingo and going to Casino’s. She loved her family, and greatly enjoyed being with her grandchildren, and going to ceremonial grounds for events. She is survived by her daughter, Dana Murray of Shawnee, Oklahoma; two brothers, Frankie Alexander of Seminole, Oklahoma and Wiley Butler of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; three sisters, Penny Palmer of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Elizabeth Butler of Seminole, Oklahoma and Judy Proctor of Hanna, Oklahoma; and five grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Stephen A. Gouge and Carrie D. Taylor; great grandmother, Lena Spencer- Fixico; great grandfather Jonas Fixico, along with several aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow at the Alexander Family Cemetery northeast of Seminole, Oklahoma. Serving as Pallbearers are: Cecil Walker, Jonas Walker, Leonard Walker, Thomas Wildcat, Jerry Proctor, Anthony Butler and Ernest McPerryman. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are: Frankie Alexander, Wiley Butler and Barney Mitchell. Wake services will be held on Monday, October 3, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M.
