Bernice Ashby

July 28, 1929 — April 19, 2017

Bernice E. Ashby, 87 year old long time Seminole County resident, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.  She was born July 28, 1929 in Skiatook, Oklahoma to parents, Joe O’Dell and Viola (Sumpter) O’Dell. Bernice attended Bowlegs High School and had worked for many years as a cashier for Humpty Dumpty Grocery Store in Seminole.  She later owned and operated Memory Lane Antique Store on Main Street in Seminole.  Bernice and her husband Roy also raised cattle and were ranchers in the Bowlegs area. Bernice married Roy Ashby on May 25, 1947 in Bowlegs, Oklahoma. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Mickey and Mary Ashby of Bowlegs, Oklahoma.  One very special niece, Cheryl O’Dell of Shawnee, Oklahoma.  Three grandchildren, Jason Black of Ada, Oklahoma, Merrick Ashby of Konawa, Oklahoma and Mickenzi Anderson of Bowlegs, Oklahoma.  Four great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Black, Olivia Black, Madilynd Ashby and Brinlee Anderson. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Viola O’Dell, by her husband, Roy Ashby who died March 13, 1992, by two brothers, Leonard O’Dell and by Kenneth O’Dell who died in 2005, by one daughter, Brenda Ashby Black who died in 2006. Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Little Cemetery Chapel with Kent Wooster officiating the service.  Bernice will be laid to rest next to her husband Roy Ashby at Little Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
