Benny Douglas Slusher, age 80 and a life-long resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away from this life on Monday, January 24, 2011 at Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 27th at the Assembly of God Church in Konawa. Rev. Steve Lowrance will officiate. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Pallbearers are Sonny O’Dell, Dale Radford, Eck Goodrich, Lawrence Hinman, Aaron Isaacs, Darin Radford. Honorary Pallbearers are Ed Bray, Harold Glover, and H.O. Griffin. Benny was born on August 13, 1930 in Ada, Oklahoma to John Leonard Slusher and Ora Earlene (Huff) Slusher. He was a Konawa High School graduate, and he was a rural mail carrier for Konawa for many years. He married Dorothy (Hailey) on July 21, 1962 in Gainsville, Texas. He loved delivering meals to the elderly and teasing people. Benny spent many tireless hours working in community service. He was an inspiration to all who knew and loved him. He was a kind and committed father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to the lights of his life, Taryn and Brayden. Benny was known far and wide for his wonderful dry sense of humor, which never wavered to the end. Most importantly, Benny faithfully served the Lord, and he faithfully attended church at the Assembly of God Church in Konawa where he was a member. He is survived by one daughter, Debbie Wood and husband, David of Seminole, Oklahoma; one brother, Kenneth Slusher and wife, Mary of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Deanna Wood of Norman and Tiffany Dame of Seminole; two great grandchildren, Taryn Nicole and Brayden Christian; and special friend, Donna Jones of Konawa, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ora Slusher and his wife, Dorothy Slusher.
