Ben Carter, 69, longtime Seminole resident went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 18, 2009 in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Ben was born May 9, 1940 in Seminole to Ben F. and Edith (Calaham) Carter. Ben grew up in Seminole and attended Seminole Schools and Graduated from Seminole High School, while there Ben was a star football player. Ben served his country in the Army National Guard of Oklahoma. He served 27 years in “Battery B” First Battalion 160th. He attained the rank of staff sergeant. He worked at Independent Tank Company as a welder for several years and later at Hopeman Equipment Company until his retirement in 1985. Ben was a Christian man who loved his Lord and family, they were the source of all his joy. Ben was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He will be greatly missed. Ben was also a member of the Seminole bowling leagues and loved his bowling and crossword puzzles, drinking his diet-coke and playing with his grandchildren. Ben was married to Bonnie Graves on August 31, 1959 in Ada, Oklahoma. They were married for 50 years. Ben his survived by his wife Bonnie Carter of the home in Seminole. Daughter Sheila Purkey and husband Marion of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Son and daughter-in-law Ric and Kathy Carter of Seminole, Oklahoma and Daughter and son-in-law Tami and Dale Hickman of Wewoka, Oklahoma. Two brothers and sisters-in-law’s Donnie and Judy Carter of Seminole, Oklahoma and Dick and Joyce Carter of Seminole, Oklahoma. Grandchildren Matt and Amanda Purkey , Angela and Kevin Buie, Rebecca Purkey, Jamal and Krystal Khalil, Emily and Brian Anderson, Samira Khalil and Heather Khalil. Great-grandchildren Kevin and Bobby Porter, Ashlyn Purkey, Baily Jo and Kandance Wallace, Calista, Brooklyn and Riley Khalil, Aundrea and Trinity Anderson, Annabell and Kiara Black and Brian Anderson and Katie Fletcher. Service is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with burial following at Little Cemetery. Ron Shepherd will officiate the services and casket bearers will be Dale Hickman, Matt Purkey, Jamal Khalil, Greg Carter and Hal Botsford.
