Avis Dorsett

Avis Antionette Dorsett, 90, longtime Seminole resident died Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Rose Manor Nursing Home in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She was born January 8, 1922 in Ione, Arkansas to Thomas E. and Ira Vanilla (Powell) Boggs. Avis came to Seminole, Oklahoma from Glenpool, Oklahoma 57 years ago. Avis loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and showed it throughout her life. She loved attending church. Avis was a homemaker who kept her house very well and cared for her family whom she loved very much. She was a very good grandmother and they loved her great “ Home Cooking”. She had a passion for flowers and gardening, and was always thinking of others. She loved to bake cakes, pies and deliver to the elderly of her church and to her neighbors. In earlier years she worked as a cashier at the Newton Walls Store in Seminole, Oklahoma. Avis was married to Victor G. Thrasher, the father of her children, who died on June 24, 1982 and to Oscar Dorsett, second husband who preceded her in death on November 4, 2004. Avis is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Don R. and Martha Thrasher of Ft. Worth, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Vicky A. and Dick Haley of Shawnee, Oklahoma; her brother Burl Boggs of Sand Springs, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her grandchildren whom she loved very much; Robin King and her husband Bobby of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Rick Haley and his wife Carol of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, and Samantha Thrasher of Ft. Worth, Texas.; and six great grandchildren Chris King, Caitlyn King, Devin Haley, Maegan B. Haley, Meagan D. Haley and Erika Haley. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2012, at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole, Oklahoma with Matt Moseley officiating. The family would like to thank Angelic Hospice and Rose Manor Nursing Home in Shawnee, Oklahoma, the nurses and all staff personnel who cared for Avis during her illness. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
