Austin “Bruce” Ramsey, age 65 and a resident of Sasakwa, Oklahoma went home to be with the Lord on May 2, 2015 at Kindred North in Oklahoma City. A memorial graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Konawa City Cemetery in Konawa, Oklahoma under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Bruce will receive full military honors. Kellos Walker of Spring Baptist Church of Sasakwa will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Hoover, Don Speaker, Brian Baysinger, James Neil, Leroy Finney, and Vic Masterson. Vocalist will be Richard Hudson. Bruce was born on February 7, 1950 in Konawa to Horace “Lee” Ramsey and Ella Aline (Pullin) Ramsey. A 1969 graduate of Del Mar High School in Campbell, California, he enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard on October 28, 1970. As a much decorated soldier, he received among his awards, the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and the an Outstanding Service Award during various operations. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, the Peacetime Era, the Gulf War Era, and the Liberation of Kuwait. With almost 23 years of service to his country, Bruce’s titles included Water Purification Specialist, Chemical Operations Specialist, and Aviation Mechanic. He retired from the Army in February, 1993 and received a subsequent retirement from the Army National Guard 2120 Supply Service Company on February 1, 1996 with the rank of Staff Seargent E6. As a resident of Sasakwa, he served on the City Council and was elected as Mayor on May 25, 2010. Bruce was an admirer of the great outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and time with family and friends. Family was treasured in Bruce’s life as he was in theirs. He left to cherish his memories, his brother, Kevin Lee Ramsey of Sasakwa, Oklahoma; two nephews, Devin Ramsey of Quinton, Oklahoma, Rick Harmer and wife, Karla of Round Rock, Texas; two aunts, Wanda Rider of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Darlene Neil and husband, Jim of Bossier City, Louisiana; two great nieces; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Ella Ramsey; one sister, Gail Harmer; two aunts, Marcene Baysinger and Nadine Hoover; grandmother, Viola Hudson Ramsey; and great aunt, Molly Slagle.
