Augustin Henry Shi, V, M.D., 69 Augustin Henry “Gus” Shi, V, a long time Seminole resident and member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 69.  Gus was born on April 18, 1947 in  the Shi family home in Stratford, Oklahoma to parents Augustin Henry Shi, III, and Molly Wanda (Winn) Shi.  Gus graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1969 with a B.S. in Animal Science.  He then attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma, where he met an x-ray technician who became the love of his life and wife of over 44 years, Carol Carter Shi.  A dedicated physician, Gus also completed a Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Oklahoma in 1992, before working as a physician and hospitalist in Shawnee and at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center in Ada, Oklahoma. Gus and Carol married on August 21, 1971 in Stratford, Oklahoma.  After Gus graduated from medical school in 1973, the couple settled in Wewoka, Oklahoma, where Gus opened his practice as a family physician.  They then spent a brief stint in the Holdenville area, before relocating to Seminole in 1980.  Over the next 36 years, Gus became a pillar of the community, delivering over 1,000 babies, serving as a Sunday school teacher and deacon at the First Baptist Church of Seminole for over three decades, volunteering on the local school board for 26 years, and acting as a team doctor for the Seminole High School football team and Seminole State College baseball team.  A dedicated supporter of the Oklahoma State Cowboys (and a sympathetic Sooner fan), Gus greatly enjoyed attending and watching football, baseball and basketball games.  He was an avid bridge and card player who loved to golf and work the daily cross-word puzzle.  Gus also loved to travel with his family and friends, and his adventures took him to numerous destinations, including fishing in Canada, yearly ski trips to Aspen, cruises in Alaska and the Panama Canal, medical conferences in Las Vegas, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco, and repeated journeys to Brazil to visit his Brazilian exchange student and her family.  Gus is survived by his wife, Carol Carter Shi of the home; two sons, Jack Brawner Shi and his wife, Jennifer Griswold Shi, of Ninnekah, Oklahoma, and Andrew Foster Shi of San Francisco, California; one daughter, Ann Marie Shi of Norman, Oklahoma; one grandson, Jarrett Henry Shi of Ninnekah, Oklahoma; one exchange student, Carolina Parpinelli Claro De Oliveira of Sao Paulo, Brazil; six sisters, Bessie Jane Shi of Pickett, Oklahoma, Mary Josephine Stucker of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Martha Dew of Stratford, Oklahoma, Molly Shi Boren and her husband, David L. Boren, of Norman, Oklahoma, Judy Connally and her husband, Dr. Don Connally, of Pickett, Oklahoma, and Susan Shi Crutcher of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Brown and her husband, Jerry Brown, of Norman, Oklahoma, and Laura Baker and her husband, Phillip Baker, of Dickinson, Texas; the Wanda Adkins Family of Wewoka, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Gus was preceded in death by his parents, Augustin Henry Shi, III, and Molly Wanda (Winn) Shi; an infant brother, Augustin Henry Shi, IV; paternal grandparents, Augustin Henry Shi, II, M.D., and Bessie Mabel (Jackson) Shi; and  maternal grandparents, Joseph Bannister Winn and Altah Martha (Key) Winn.  Gus is now cancer-free and living the hope we have in Jesus and in Heaven.  Gus’ smile warmed every room he entered and embraced every person he met.  He was a dedicated Christian who loved and served his family, the medical community, his church, and his God.  He was a dedicated bible scholar and historian, and he loved to sing, especially the gospel music of his upbringing.  And, he loved to laugh.  His family was his life, and serving others was his mission.  And now his reward… Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2016 at the First Baptist Church Seminole with his brother-in-law, Phillip Baker, officiating.  Burial will take place at McGee Cemetery in Stratford, Oklahoma.
