Archie L. Moore, 85, former longtime Seminole resident, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Cushing, Oklahoma. Archie was born September 11, 1930 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Jesse Webster Moore and Odessel (Godwin) Moore. Archie married Louise Marie ( Heffley) Moore on May 1, 1953 in Fayetteville, Arkansas shortly after Archie was discharged from the U.S. Air Force after serving during Korean War for 3 years as an Airman Second Class. Archie served as a Firefighter for the Seminole Fire Department for 22 years and was Assistant Chief when he retired from the fire department in the mid 1970’s. During his firefighter career, he helped many people in fires, car wreck, floods and rescued several people from these perils , over the years. He also received a commendation from the Governor of the State of Oklahoma for bravery in his efforts in rescuing people from various perils. After his retired he went to work for Wacker’s as their sporting goods department manager for many years. He later moved to the Broken Bow, Oklahoma area and became the Camp Host, for over 20 years, at the Beaver Bend State Park until retiring in 2015. Archie loved fishing and hunting, playing bluegrass music, the fiddle, all stringed instruments. He was a member of the Seminole Bass Club, Bowlegs Baptist Church, was active in civic affairs, coached little league baseball, and was a graduate of Bowlegs High School. Family was always important to Archie, and he loved every one of them. He enjoyed visiting with people and helping them. Archie is survived by his wife of 62 years Louise Moore of Agra, Oklahoma, four sons, Larry Greenwood of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Steven Moore and his wife, Uvyone of Muse, Oklahoma, Glen Wayne Moore and his wife, Anna of Seminole, Oklahoma and Tim Moore and his wife, Lazeal of Agra, Oklahoma, two daughters Odessa Marie Long and her husband, Christopher of Cleveland, Oklahoma and LaDonna Barner and her husband, Steve of Eufaula, Oklahoma, one brother Sidney Moore of Cincinnati, Arkansas, four sisters Juhree Moore, Susie Rowland, Billie Walker all of Seminole, Oklahoma and Jeanette Dewitt of Rowland, Oklahoma, along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great- greatgrandchildren and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Laura Williams and a son-in-law, Terry Brennan. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, with Bill Chesser officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery. His grandson will act as casket bearers. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
