Anna Louise (Forbes) Courtney, age 93 and a longtime resident of Konawa, Oklahoma passed away April 5, 2025 at Glenhaven Retirement Village in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
A graveside service is scheduled for 1100 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025 at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Rev. Pam Shirk will officiate.
Anna was born May 12, 1931 in Ft. Scott, Kansas to Jewel H. Forbes and Elida Ruth (Allen) Forbes. They moved to Konawa in 1938 where her father worked in oilfield production. She graduated from Konawa High School in 1950. Anna married Charles “Milton” Courtney June 12, 1950 in Konawa at the First United Methodist Church. They were happily married for seventy-two years until his passing in 2022. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Konawa for seventy-four years where she served in many roles: Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Director, and many other roles. She was a devoted housewife and a wonderful mother to her three children, David, Mary, and Anita. After the kids all left home, she started and ran the Konawa Childcare Center with her good friend, Paula Gallagher for many years. She was the adopted “Grandmother” to the Walker family, and she babysat many who became her second set of kids. Anna was an active hobbiest as she did many ceramics, stained glass, metal works, and sewing projects.
She is survived by her son, David Courtney and wife, Debbie of Chickasha, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, June Skaggs of Oklahoma City; sons-in-law, Larry Fletcher of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and Terry Hawthorne of Midlothian, Texas; grandsons, Charles Courtney of Oklahoma city, and Andrew Courtney and wife, Lauren of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Amy Hardy and husband, Jeff of Muskogee, Cary McClenan and husband, Scott of Muskogee, and Bethany Willige and husband, Dusty of Norman, Oklahoma; ten great grandchildren; and a host of other family, church family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jewel and Elida Forbes; her husband, Milton Courtney; brother, Bryce Forbes; and daughters, Mary Fletcher, Anita Hawthorne.
