Ann Lee Suttles

February 12, 1935 — October 3, 2018

Ann Lee Suttles was born in Wichita, Kansas on February 12, 1935 to Kenneth Lee Troup Suttles and Efton Paul Suttles and died on October 3, 2018. Following graduation in 1953 from Konawa High School she immediately went to work for the Oklahoma State Bank in Konawa. She later moved to Oklahoma City where she was employed by Liberty Bank. She also worked at Southwestern Bank assisting with the opening of the new Southwestern Bank. She worked at Fidelity Bank for three years. Ann worked at the Stockyards Bank for twenty-seven years where she achieved the title of Senior Vice President. Her banking career extended forty-seven years when she retired in the year 2000. She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Banking. Ann attributed her success in banking to Robert Y. Empie and Morrison G. Tucker who mentored her and supported her throughout her career. She earned a degree in accounting and an MBA from Oklahoma City University. She served as Chairman of the Oklahoma Banker’s Association specialty schools in both operations and compliance. In 1999 she was recipient of the Oklahoma Banker’s Association “Chairman Award” for appreciation of her dedicated leadership and outstanding contributions to the Oklahoma Banker’s Association and the American Banking Industry. Ann volunteered countless hours for the National Association of Bank Women (NABW), an organization whose efforts were dedicated to further educating senior women in banking. She served on the national board of directors for five terms. She served as Chairman of the NABW Educational Foundation traveling to 49 states to promote the organization. She was awarded their educational scholarship in 1985. She was instrumental in renaming the organization to Financial Women International in 1985. Other endeavors included her volunteer leadership with the Stock Yards City Main Street and their Business Improvement District. Ann served as President of the Association in 2000 and Treasurer in 2002. She served as Chairman of the Design Committee and the Organization Committee that initiated the Cowboy Christmas parade in 1998. She was honored by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce as Stockyards City Main Street Board Member of the Year in 2002. Ann attended Life Church, south OKC. As a youngster while visiting her Grandmother Troup Ann gave her life to Christ. During the early 1980’s Ann met Henry Maldonado while he was attending college in Oklahoma. Henry, Lois and Brock became lifelong friends. They were a constant support to Ann for many years. Henry and Lois provided support and oversaw her medical care until the Good Lord called her home. Other significant and strong support for Ann has been Peter James Bedner, Virginia Pemberton Patton Buckler, Bailey Pemberton Kincade and Stone Keith Coley. Among her close and caring friends are June O’Steen, Lee Beard and Paul David Hastings. Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa will be directing graveside service at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2018 at Konawa Cemetery.
