Anita R. (Mahan) Wells, 87 year old Seminole, Oklahoma resident passed from this life on Friday, June 26, 2015 in Seminole. She was born February 4, 1928 in Dustin, Oklahoma to parents Ben Chester Mahan, Sr. and Maude (Moore) Mahan. On December 24, 1945 Anita married Gene “Snag” Wells in Weleetka, Oklahoma. The couple moved to Seminole in 1957 from Weleetka. Anita was a member of Ideal Street Baptist Church in Seminole, she is also a past member of the Pleasant Grove Home Demonstration Club. She also worked at Neil’s shoe store in Seminole to keep agile. One of Anita’s highlights in life was the time she was able to shake hands with President Kennedy when he was in Big Cabin, Oklahoma. Anita was also a very accomplished seamstress where she would make to order everything from prom dresses to lingerie. Anita always had a thirst for knowledge in many different subjects which always made for good conversation. She would even travel to OSU to “monitor” classes. She was approached by a professor about paying for the class so she could get the credit toward a degree. Her reply was, “I don’t want a piece of paper, I just want the knowledge.” In her later years she was able to travel from coast to coast and to the Republic of Panama. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Danny Wells of Seminole, Oklahoma; two daughters, Donna G. Cline and her husband Max of Henryetta, Oklahoma, Gail Wells of Houston, Texas; three brothers, Andy Mahan and his wife Sondra of Henryetta, Oklahoma, Dean Mahan of Eufaula, Oklahoma, Clifford Mahan and his wife Delores of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Teri James of Phoenix, Arizona, Darren James of Modesto, California and Jascen Wells of Shawnee, Oklahoma; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends including her special friend Linda Rose. Anita was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband of almost 56 years, Gene “Snag” Wells who died on August 8, 2000; and by two brothers, Kenneth Mahan and Ben C. Mahan, Jr. Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Dustin Cemetery in Dustin, Oklahoma.
