Anita Kay (Newsom) Stephens, longtime Seminole County resident, entered eternal life September 5, 2020. On September 23, 1957, Anita was born Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to parents Carne Newsom and Roberta Cain. She graduated from Butner High School in 1975 and attended Oscar Rose College in Midwest City. On September 16, 1977 Anita married Claud Stephens, Jr. in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Anita was fond of many hobbies; sewing, gardening, fishing, singing, travelling, photography, arts and crafts and spending time with her grandchildren. She especially loved spending time with family and friends. She was a member of ERCC of Christ, 2nd class Bible school teacher, local General Church Servant member of the International ERCC of Christ conference, local Board of Trustee treasurer of the S.W.A, a member of the Nobletown Community Center School, where she was a volunteer.
Anita worked at Tinker Air Force Base, Fidelity Bank, Lillian Russell, Debbie’s Day Care, Wrangler but was mainly a homemaker that she enjoyed.
Anita leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband Claud of the home; her mother, Roberta Cain; son Claud Stephens III and his wife Kimberly of Wewoka; two daughters, Christal Akadiri and her husband Sean of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Angela Longley and her husband Jonathan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three brothers, Milton McCormick and wife Juanita of Edmond, Oklahoma, Timothy McCormick of Cromwell, Oklahoma, Carnell Newsom of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four sisters, Tanya Cain of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Shelia Cain of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Carolyn Crenshaw and husband Terry of Seminole, Oklahoma, Alecsia Newsom of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Kimbrie Strayhorn, Shem’mario, Shemmei’ and Shallomar Stephens, DeOnte’ Mason, Christian, Raiah, Alissa and Skyrah Akadiri; one great grandchild, King Chapman, and many more dear family and friends.
Sadly, Anita was preceded in death by her father, Carne Newsom, daughter Anisha Stephens, granddaughter Adacia Ania Stephens, and two sisters, Princella Smith Ward and Marilyn Sue Clark and her grandmothers; Anna Modia (Wortham) Burkhalter and Parzola (Booker) Newsom.
Pallbearers will be, Claud Stephens III, Shem’mario Stephens, Shemmei’ Stephens, DeOnte’ Mason, Shallomar Stephens and Christian Akadiri. Honorary pallbearers are her brothers and nephews.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m., Friday, September 11, 2020 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma. George Wortham and Roy Stephens will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Machpelah Cemetery in Seminole County, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
