Andrew Steven Akerman

Andrew Steven Akerman, age 22 and a resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2011 at Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma. A wake service is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17th at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa.  A Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Konawa with Fr. Adrian Vorderlandwehr, O.S.B. officiating.  Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.  Pallbearers are Chad Whittington, Josh Davis, Jacob Wise, Colton Simons, Eric Michelsen, Garrett Minitre, and Josh Sharber. Andrew was born on November 7, 1988 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  He graduated Konawa High School in May of 2007.  He was a full-time computer science major at East Central University, and was a former ECU band member.  Andrew spent last summer as an intern for the Finley and Cook IT Department in Shawnee.  Andrew loved band, computers, video games, spending time with his friends, and eating Mexican food.  He always loved to have friends to attend his birthday parties. He is survived by his mother, Brenda Akerman of the home; one brother, Chad Whittington and wife, Jennifer of Stratford, Oklahoma; his maternal grandparents, Chris and Jo Akerman of Konawa; two uncles, Gary Akerman and wife, Alesa of Sudan, Africa, and Tim Akerman of Konawa; one aunt Karen Green of Wills Point, Texas; one nephew and three nieces; and a host of family and friends too numerous to list.
