Amelia Laveta (Lowry) Phelps, 87, longtime Konawa, Oklahoma, resident, died Friday, September 20, 2019, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Amelia was born on May 15, 1932, in Konawa, Oklahoma to Donald Webster and Elva Ethel (Morgan) Lowry. Amelia was a very talented artist. She had a very strong interest in Oklahoma History. Amelia loved playing rook with her friends, Nelma, Shirley, and Linda. She was known in her youth as a singer and a musician. Amelia was married to John Carter Phelps in Konawa, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker. Amelia is survived by her daughters, Sherry Phelps McDermott of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Veronica Lee Vick of Houston, Texas, and Tamra McLeod of Mesilla, New Mexico, one brother, Tony Lowry of Konawa, Oklahoma and, five grandchildren, Morgan McLeod, Jesse McDermott, Tracy Vick, Phillip Vick and Robbie Lande. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Carter Phelps, her sister, Mildred Edwards, and a brother, Kenneth Lowry. Memorial services will be held at the Church of Christ in Konawa, Oklahoma, at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2019. Cremation services will follow after the service. Funeral services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Konawa, Oklahoma.
