Amelia Deer

Amelia Madeline Deer, 72, lifelong Seminole resident, died Saturday, December 26, 2009 at Integris Seminole Medical Center. Amelia was born March 6, 1937, in Seminole, Oklahoma to Rev. Willie and Winey (Johnson) Haney. Mrs. Deer was a longtime director of the Seminole Nation Older American Program and after retirement she was primarily a homemaker. She was a graduate of Strothers High School and was a member of the Hitichitee Methodist Church where she served as an Elder and Women’s leader of the church. She also served as church treasurer. Her husband, George Deer on December 9, 1996, preceded Mrs. Deer. Her parents Rev. Willie and Winey Haney, brothers Woodrow, Sam, Warren, Robert and Ernie Haney. Three sons, Ricky Deer and Daryl Deer of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Joel Deer of Tulsa, Oklahoma, three daughters, Melissa Deer, Georgetta Goins and Cheri Deer all of Seminole, Oklahoma, survives her. One brother, Jerry Haney of Shawnee, Oklahoma and three sisters, Lorene Tiger of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Ruth Heddinger of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Madeline Amos of Eufaula, Oklahoma, seventeen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Wake services are planned for 6:00 P.M.; Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Seminole, following the wake service she will be taken to the church for an all night wake service.  Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at Hitchitee Methodist Church with burial at the Hitchitee Church Cemetery. Rev. Dave Long, Jr. and Rev. Mike Harjo will officiate the services. Mrs. Deer will be taken to Hitchitee Methodist Church after the wake services on Tuesday night for all night wake. Casket bearers will be, David Deer, Daryl Deer, Jr., Cory Deer, Chris Wassana, Nathan Deer, Darren Fixico, Tyler Combs and Kalone Blackwell. Honorary bearers will be Danny Frank Goins, Lorne Fixico, Caiden Deer, Porter Wassana, Cameron and Christian Amos, Michael Haney and Kevin Heddinger.   Funeral Information: December 29, 2009, 2:00 PM Hitchitee Methodist Church located at NE of Seminole, Seminole, OK 74868
