Alva A. Hembree, 92 year-old longtime Pottawatomie County resident passed from this life Wednesday, August 22, 2012 in Stratford, Texas. He was born October 23, 1919 in Maud, Oklahoma on the family farm to parents Orin Hembree and Maudie Jane (Brothers) Hembree. Mr. Hembree served in the United Sates Navy during World War II where he earned the rank of Aviation Metalsmith, second class. On September 7, 1941 Mr. Hembree married Wilma Faye Holland in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple was longtime members of the Church of Christ in Saint Louis, Oklahoma. Later they attended the Church of Christ in Stratford, Texas. Mr. Hembree worked as an oilfield pumper for many years for A.W. Hembree Oil Company. Sadly Hembree’s wife of 69 years Wilma Hembree preceded him in death on October 16, 2010. Mr. Hembree leaves to cherish his memory one son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Marian Hembree of Stratford, Texas, one daughter and son-in-law, Lucky and Gerd Fecht of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a host of other dear family and friends. A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Cummings Cemetery in Maud, Oklahoma with his son-in-law Gerd Fecht officiating the service. Following the graveside service a memorial service will be held at the Church of Christ in Saint Louis, Oklahoma.
