Alpha B. Swearingen

Alpha B. Swearingen, 91, longtime Seminole resident died, Sunday, February 15, 2015 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Alpha was born on November 9, 1923 in Headrick, Oklahoma to Minnie B. (Jones) and Dee O. Chambers. Alpha grew up in the Bethany, Oklahoma area and attended schools there. Alpha was the City Clerk and City Treasurer for many years for the City of Seminole, before her retirement. She had previously worked for her husband’s C.P.A. firm (David L. Swearingen) and legal secretary for Bishop and Wantland, Law Firm. Alpha was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Seminole and voter inspector for the Seminole County Election Board. Alpha loved golf, playing bridge, horse racing and going to Las Vegas. Alpha married David L. Swearingen on February 24, 1944, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and he preceded her in death on April 27, 1967. Alpha is survived by her three sons; David Swearingen and his wife Linda Beth of Pensacola Beach, Florida, Toby Swearingen and his wife Kellye of Seminole, Oklahoma and Tom Swearingen and his wife Esperanza of Shawnee, Oklahoma; two daughters Nancy Villines and her husband John of Seminole, Oklahoma and Linda Swearingen of Seminole, Oklahoma. She is also survived by a brother Jesse Chambers and his wife Ramona of Bethany, Oklahoma and a sister Doris Simpson of Bethany, Oklahoma; her grandchildren Mathew Sean Villines of Seminole, Oklahoma, Oswald Mitchell and his wife Amber of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Justin Mitchell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jacob Swearingen of Seminole, Oklahoma and Alea Swearingen of Seminole, two great grandchildren Finneas Mitchell and Drake Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David, sister Helen Young, grandson David Sean Swearingen, on May 9, 1982 and her longtime special companion Leonard Saffa in 2007. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma and burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole. Casket Bearers will be Mathew Villines, Dwayne Goodnight, Jacob Swearingen, Oz Mitchell ,Justin Mitchell and Dean Simpson. The family request memorial donations be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
